I have expertise in The Chicago Manual of Style and the CSE Manual: Scientific Style and Format for Authors, Editors, and Publishers, or will follow your house style.

COPYEDITING

An overall review of your full text to ensure consistency and accuracy.

  • Corrects spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation 
  • Checks citation formatting, notes, and cross-references 
  • Checks bibliographic formatting
  • Includes basic queries and fact-checking

May be combined with preparing style sheets as a separate service.

LINE EDITING

A line-by-line review of paragraphs and sentences that corrects spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation, but with a focus on improving language and style. A more intensive review than copyediting, typically includes a higher level of queries and suggestions.

PROOFREADING

The last stage of a project after copyediting is complete. A check for typographical errors, typesetting specifications, design consistency, and page makeup, typically on PDF page proofs, often with cross-checking against copyedited text to make sure earlier changes have been made.
